Guest Bath Basket

This is what is sitting in my guest bathroom. We’re having company next weekend and I thought I would get some things together and put it all in a basket. Target had some baskets on clearance, hooray, so that worked out too! I think I have just about everything in there that someone could want or need while visiting!

Moisturizer

I have super sensitive skin to everything makeup or cleanser related. I cannot use any Noxzema products or Neutrogena on my face. I instantly break out in hives. I’ve used Clinque, Mary Kay and Almay in the past with no irritation at all. In fact I can only use Maybelline, L’Oreal, Almay mascaras. All other brands make my eyes water. I wear contacts, so I have to be careful of what I put on my eyes anyway. I have yet to find a great eye shadow that stays on more than 5 minutes…my eyes water with every brand.

I recently completed a comparison between L’Oreal and Olay moisturizer on my really sensitive skin. I was using Olay total Effects, the cleanser for blemish control and the normal one. I had an incident last summer when I cleaned my face in hot water in the shower and had a busted capillary as a result. I cannot tell you if it was the hot water, the cleanser or a combination of them both, but, I can tell you that I stopped cleaning my face in the shower! I was using Olay Active Hydrating Cream, every day. I noticed a few weeks ago that I would put that on and then put on my mascara and my eyes would start to water. I never put the cream near my eyes, so, I thought maybe it was my mascara, so I switched. It didn’t stop the reaction until I stopped using the daily cream.

I switched to L’Oreal Revitalift complete with spf 18 in it, yesterday. I walked around the store with a small sample of it on my cheek, to see if there was a reaction to it at all. I’ve broken out within seconds of putting on makeup and moisturizer, just to return it the next day, so, I wasn’t going to return the next product I purchased. No reaction at all, in fact my skin seemed to love it!

I cleansed my face last night with Go 360 Clean. Love it! It has a little puff cleaning thing that sits on the bottle, so cute! My face didn’t get red or break out, so, I’m happy with it. I put on my new day cream this morning and then put on my new mascara. No tears, no eye watering at all in fact! This is great, finally I have found a good combination!

Eye Makeup Test

If you are like me at this time of year, you have red, itchy eyes and everything you put on them disappears or irritates them.

I’ve been trying out some mascaras over the past six or so weeks. I wear contacts and I have very sensitive eyes.

I have found that Almay mascara is the one that doesn’t irritate my eyes and doesn’t run when I cry. I cried a lot over the past weekend, in church, for Easter services. I was so surprised that I didn’t have “raccoon” eyes!

Here’s what I have tried:

One Coat Get up and Grow

This mascara is really great at coating your lashes! I curled my lashes, then put on one coat. I only wear mascara, not really any other makeup, but, this actually made me try the eyeshadow that Almay makes as well! It lasted all day. It wasn’t super clumpy and I combed it out after I put it on, for no clumps at all. I didn’t have any flaking with it, which is really important when you have contacts! It didn’t make my eyes itchy, like other mascara’s have in the past. This is a great mascara for going out to dinner, a date, with other makeup as well. I put on two coats, and my lashes are really long! I’m going to keep wearing this one for a while!

One Coat Nourishing Mascara

This is the mascara I’ve used for a while, on and off for two years. I wanted something different, something that can make my lashes even longer, so I tried the One Coat Get up and Grow. I have really short lashes that are non-existent without anything on them. I curled them first, then, I applied one coat. It is good for daytime use, just if I’m running errands. It’s a great mascara, just didn’t give me the length I wanted. If you have long lashes and just want one coat, then use this one!

Maybelline Volum’ Express

I’ve used this mascara for years and years. I like it as it has a curved brush. I didn’t like it as the formula must have changed over the past few months. I found that it’s been flaking after I put it on and start combing it out. That’s why I started using Almay instead and experimenting with different kinds that Almay makes. I’ve used Almay in the past, but, I switched back and forth between this one and the Almay One coat.

Crocheting a Granny Square

Here’s the instructions that I’ve been using for years. My youngest daughter wrote them down for me a long, long time ago.

To start:

  • Chain 4 or chain 6, then slip stitch into the first chain you made.
  • Chain 2 then double crochet 2 into the center of the loop.
  • Chain 3, then double crochet 3 into the center. * Repeat * around. Slip stitch into the top stitch.
  • Slip stitch until you reach the next start of the corner, chain 2, and then double crochet 2. Chain 3, then double crochet 3 into the corner.
  • Chain 1, then double crochet 3 into the next corner or space (chain 3, if in corner then double crochet 3 more)
  • At the end of the row, chain 1 and slip stitch into the top stitch of the first double  chain 3.

Let me know how this works for you and send me an email with photos or post them on your Flickr or Facebook page so I can see the results!

Black Friday

With November right around the corner, I thought I would post some tips about Black Friday. These are from people that have been getting up at 4 a.m. or earlier for a few years. I plan on shopping on Black Friday for the first time in my life, this year. We need a new TV, so I will be dragging hubby out with me to Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target to find the best deal!

You can use the following links to help you get the best deals:

You can also download an iPhone app to see all the sales anytime, anywhere. It’s called Black Friday and it’s free. As far as I can tell there’s not an app for the Android platform, yet. Anyone know of one or is building one…contact me!

You can sign up for alerts from your favorite merchants so you don’t miss anything. Also, if you sign up on Facebook for the following merchants, and I’m sure there’s more out there, you can get some nice FREEbies! Have one to add?? Contact me!

  • Ben and Jerry’s
  • H & M
  • PUMA
  • Starbucks
  • Target
  • Victoria’s Secret

You can always wait for Cyber Monday. I usually do most of my shopping online in October, wait until the sales are in full swing in November and get the last few things. I did Cyber Monday last year and it was great. I did get some great deals. One thing I really love about Amazon is that they offer Amazon Prime. I recently joined and I really love it. It’s been a few months, so I can definitely write a review. For $79  a year you can get most things that you want or need in a hurry, quickly delivered for just a $3.99 extra fee. Sometimes you need that, especially when you forgot a special day or need something to fix something in your home so you don’t freeze!  Two-day shipping is FREE! Take advantage of joining now, so you can get all the presents you are buying for your family and friends quickly, wrap them and enjoy the extra time you usually spend stressing out! There are some things that don’t qualify, but, I have only found a few since July when I joined.
